It isn’t as bad as you think, when you consider Jordan can opt out of Mavs deal in 3 years when the salary cap will be much higher and can sign another max deal with Mavs or someone else.
Also it isn’t that he is losing money as much as losing a guaranteed year, but unless he has a career ending injury should make it up, plus no state tax in Texas softens the blow on a year to year basis.
It just seemed he wanted to leave Clippers, so he could get out of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin’s shadow.
The Clippers offered Jordan the max, which was 5 years for about $109 million. He went with the Mavs' 4-year, $81 million deal instead.
