The L.A. Lakers didn’t win free agency, but they did make some good moves and drastically improved via the draft.
That’s the fairy tale of the Los Angeles Lakers. It bears a striking resemblance to the one that Mitch Kucphak was peddling on Thursday to reporters, when asked if the Lakers’ roster could compete for a playoff spot.
With an improved roster featuring Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams and Roy Hibbert along with Randle, Russell and Kobe Bryant, the Lakers GM believes his franchise is ready to return to the playoffs.
Is this Lakers squad equipped to make the playoffs? Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak: “It’s a little early, but I would say yes."

It they were in the East, the Lakers could afford to be extremely optimistic. The problem for the Lakers is this — they would have to be better than the Western Conference playoff teams: the Warriors, Spurs, Pelicans, Grizzlies, Clippers, Rockets, Mavericks, and Blazers.
THey would also have to put out a better product than the Thunder Jazz, Suns, and Kings as well.
