I’m not sure Darrelle Revis meant any harm by this statement, but it’s telling.
On the heels of Revis recreating the 1965 Sports Illustrated cover of Joe Namath in Times Square, the Jets star cornerback has a lot to say in his interview with SI.
Revis harped on NFL players being “brainwashed” and New York being home. His most telling statement came when he compared this Jets teams to the ’09 and ’10 teams that were inches from the Super Bowl.
— Revis sees similarities from the 2015 Jets team to the ones that went to back-to-back AFC title games.
“We almost made it, and we didn’t have a quarterback,” he said of the ’09 and ’10 seasons. “Mark was solid. He wasn’t elite.”
He’s simply saying that Sanchez wasn’t elite, and neither is Geno Smith. Some fans will feel like he’s ripping young Geno, but he’s basically saying that if Smith is efficient, and steady, the Jets will be there in the end.
