Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston had a tough outing in his last preseason game. Jameis took the term “growing pains” literally. Winston’s on the field production was sub-par although it is viewed as part of the growing process for a rookie quarterback, there will be ups and downs. He ended the game completing only 6 of his 15 passes for 90 yards but an ankle injury caused more pain than his performance.
Winston rolled his ankle trying to scramble in the pocket before being eventually being sacked. Offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter thinks it affected Winston’s play but thinks he will be fine.
“It’s affecting him a bit. But he’ll be ready to go. He’ll be full speed by Tennessee. Is not anything he can’t play all. Even in practice, Jameis, you can keep them out.”
Winston is in agreement with coach Koetter. He’s not bother by the injury and is confident about future.
“Pain is temporary. I don’t focus on that at all. I played last year at Florida State with a spring ankle. That’s the least of my worries. My job is to go out there and play quarterback and fight for the team.”
Winston is a big tough kid but I’d love for him to be completely healthy for game one. I’m very interested in his Week 1 matchup against the Tennessee Titans and No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota. It’s going to be a great showdown as the NFL features the top two picks of the draft.
