Mike Foltynewicz was faced with a scary situation and has treated it in what many may say is innovative.
Blood clots are no joke and they’re taken extremely serious. Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz has been battling them and decided to treat it with a procedure that will get many eyebrows raising. The surgery was done because the blood clot was affecting his pitching arm.
The surgery, called a thoracic outlet decompression, is intended to correct the sensation Foltynewicz was feeling in his arm by removing the anterior portion of his first rib on the right side. It was performed by Dr. William Mayfield in Marietta, Ga.
