It’s that time of the year, the start of this year’s NBA season in right around the corner. Most players spent part of their day participating in media day with their organizations. Dirk Nowitzki, of the Dallas Mavericks, was all business during his session. Dirk was drafted way back in 1998, which makes him a 17-year veteran. He knows Father Time is knocking on his door but Dirk isn’t spending much time thinking about retirement.
“Obviously it’s getting closer, but it’s not like I’m thinking of the beach every day. I want to play two more years under contract here, hopefully at a high-level, compete, hopefully be efficient when I’m out there. And then every time that I was the come soon enough. But as of now, I still think I can play at a high-level. I’m going to work my butt off while here these four weeks to get in the best shape I can get in and then leave it all out there again.”
Dirk added than he has no plans to announce his retirement prior to it happening.
“That’s the worst thing that I can think about, you have to talk about it everyday. When I’m gone, I’m gone. That’s how it’s going to be.”
Dirk has a point. I hate when players go on a farewell tour. Just play the game and then hang them up when you are done.
