Ronda Rousey as a tough bar bouncer has a ring to it.
Channeling her inner Patrick Swayze, the UFC star will take the lead role in a remake of “Road House.”
Rousey will play a female version of Patrick Swayze’s “Dalton,” in a movie that does not yet have a script, but will likely feature her throwing and suplexing guys all over the bar.
MGM owns the project and selected Rousey for the starring role, but a screenplay still needs to be written. Rousey reached out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Nieme, to get approval for the part and received it, Slater said. Swayze died in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Road House,” which came out in 1989, featured Swayze as a bouncer who protected a small Missouri town from a corrupt businessman. The new version will feature Rousey as a female lead and a new spin on the original idea.
“Production of the movie will be dictated, as always, by her fight schedule,” Slater said. “That’s how we always do it and that will be the case here.”
Rousey has experience playing a bouncer in Expendables 3, and played a bodyguard in the latest Fast and The Furious.
