A High Hope For A Low Heaven
If you’ve been having withdrawals from Empire not airing last week, then I’m sure you were glad to catch this week’s episode. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from this week’s episode.
Becky’s Got A Man?
The episode opened with Becky’s leg in the air and we find our quickly that she has a man. Did anyone see this coming? Her boo turns out to be a Christian rapper that Andre will later sign to the label.
#WheresHakeem
Everyone was wondering who kidnapped Hakeem? We left the last episode with an image of Hakeem being held captive by goons and getting pistol whipped. The World Series kept us from getting answers last week, but now we see he is free. We find out he was being held for ransom and the goons wanted $40,000 and Cookie and Lucious set everything up to get Hakeem back. Hakeem, being his normal stubborn self, tells the van driver to drop him off. To our surprise, he ends up at Anika’s house and the two have a sweaty make out session.
Gutter Life Records
Lucious is bringing the streets back and wants Freda Gathers to headline it. She gives a performance and needless to say “you can take a person out the hood but you can’t take the hood out the person”. A random guy in the audience starts talking trash about her and she Bruce Lee knocked him out with one kick. Her performance was ruined and Andre pleaded with his father to have her dropped from the label before she becomes a liability. Her incident made Lucious want her on his team even more. He met up with her and gave her a new track, which he initially wanted Hakeem to have, and the two freestyle in the car. I’m just waiting on the episode where she finds out Lucious had her father killed. Season finale maybe?
What’s Wrong With Hakeem?
Hakeem goes CRAZY after his release from being kidnapped. He starts hallucinating and can’t focus on his music properly. He could be suffering from some type of PTSD. He was knocked so hard in his head with the gun, I’m sure he suffered some type of brain injury. Hakeem needs a CAT scan. Luckily, a quick pep talk with his brothers helped him get his head back in the game before his performance with his girl group. His lead singer staring into his eyes and caressing his face might have had something to do with it too.
Cookie Gets Ratchet…er
Hakeem and Cookie set up a meeting with Hakeem’s abductors and Hakeem comes strapped. He pulled his gun out so quickly and looked like he was ready to shoot everybody in there until his mother stepped in. Only she took the gun and turned from Cookie the mother into Cookie the gangster. I don’t really know what type of goons they were dealing with because they never pulled their guns out and there were three of them.
Cookie Is Sleeping With The Enemy
We end this week’s episode with Cookie getting her groove back. Cookie shows up to Laz’s house to relieve some stress from that crazy week. While they are getting it on, he removes his shirt and unveils the same Longhorn tattoo as Hakeem’s kidnappers. I knew it was too good to be true.
As always, you can catch Empire every Wednesday at 9 pm eastern on FOX.
