Kurt Angle is at the end of his wrestling career but surprisingly his MMA career is just starting with Bellator.
Angle was a part of their fight night commentary in 2015, a role he will reprise in February, but the 47-year-old Olympian isn’t ruling out stepping inside of the cage for a fight sometime in the near-future.
“They are having me get my feet wet maybe later down the road if I do decide to fight the chances are one percent that I fight and 99 that I don’t. I don’t plan on fighting but if I feel good, my body is going well I might consider it down the road. But right now I’ll say no.”
With that being said, Angle went on to explain who he’d fight if he decided to try his hand at MMA.
“When it comes down to it look, I am 47 years old. Kenny and Gracie are in their early 50’s, Dan Severn is in his early mid-50s. Of course, I am not going to wrestle or fight someone in his prime. It’s not going to happen. It will be one of the older guys. But it will be a hell of fight whether its Kimbo Slice, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn or who ever it is or even Rocye Gracie. But if I do decide it will be with a hall of famer not someone in their prime.”
Angle vs Kimbo and Angle vs Shamrock seem to be fights that would be marketable for Bellator. Angle may not be at his best anymore, do to age & injury, but he does strike me as the of athlete that could’ve had a Lesnar-type run in MMA during his prime.
