Whether you hate ’em or love ’em, the only thing that matters to Young Thug is that you’re forced to have an opinion about him.
After reaching star status in 2015, Thugga has provided fans with “I’m Up” the mixtape.
It’s not surprising to see Thug come out with a tape right now, but what is surprising is that it wasn’t the much anticipated “Slime Season 3”.
However, SS3 is still expected to come out eventually.
Since we’re in the here and now, let’s dive into “I’m up”.
“F Cancer” Feat. Quavo – Unfortunately, a few months ago we found out Lil Boosie was diagnosed with cancer.
After seeing the title of this track and hearing Thug shoutout Boosie in the intro, I figured this would be a song about, you know, cancer.
Nonetheless, this track took a completely different turn.
Get it, all my ni**as yeah they with it
Cause these pussy ni**as hatin’
They trying to knock me off my pivot
I’m a boss, I call the shots
I leave these pussy ni**as missing
And I’m whipping like I’m gifted
You can catch me in the kitchen, hey
I don’t want no brown, I want a syrup bottle
I put it down and then she started stalking
Pop all the perky, yeah a halftime
Little mamma pussy soaking, yeah it’s bath time
Quavo’s verse:
I put ice in all my watches, came in in Versace
Perky, gas, molly, trappin’, we got plenty options
Her pussy water like it’s bath time, she wishy washy
And she gon’ suck and f*ck me even when the feds watching
I don’t f*ck with broke ni**as, nah we can’t relate
I put water on that white, b*tch I call her Ricki Lake
Lil mama she lost in the sauce, she needa get hit with the pause
After I f*ck her she run through the doors
And then I’m rejecting her calls
I threw a pack over the gate to my ni**as hiding in the wall
RIP Pistol, RIP Mike, I pour up the lean for y’all
Remember the days I trapped out the bando
I had a thousand dollars
You the same ni**a that said I wouldn’t make it
I put in a thousand hours
“My Boys” Feat. Trouble, Ralo, Lil Durk – Just like many Young Thug tracks, the hook is what instantly draws you in here.

This isn’t the last time you’ll see Lil Durk.
“For My People” Feat. Duke – I really like how at the beginning of the chorus Thug’s voice is ‘normal’, but in the middle of it, he provides the listener with his vintage high-pitched tone.
By the way, this beat will slap in the whip.
“King TROUP” – Young Thug’s good friend, Keith Troup, was murdered months ago.
As the song goes on, Thug is pleading for the violence to stop.
Stop it, stop the killin’
We, we get millions
We together, get the cheddar (get them racks)
F*ck them ni**as, keep a Beretta
Let ’em have it
Ask God for forgiveness for them babies
“Ridin” Feat. Lil Durk – As mentioned before, Chicago’s very own Lil Durk is making another appearance.
It doesn’t take a rocket science to know this song was on street stuff.
Thug mixed up his flow throughout the song, but I was highly disappointed with Durk’s performance here.
Listen:
“Hercules” – Here’s the second and last song on the mixtape without a feature.
With Metro Boomin on the beat, you instantly know it’s a banger.
Another one.
“Special” Feat. Offset and Solo Lucci – One thing about Young Thug that’s so unique is how he’s able to change tempo at any given time.
This track is a prime example of that, as he constantly mixes things up.
After teaming up with Quavo from the Migos, of course he had to have Offset on the tape as well.
“Special” isn’t a hit or anything, but it’s a song you’ll ride out to.
“Bread Winners” Feat. Young Butta – You can’t tell me this song wasn’t made for the sole purpose of ‘dabbing’.
After hearing it for the first time, I just instantly felt myself dabbing without any notice, kinda how Young Thug just kicked a female off the boat without any notice.
This hook is pure gold:
I know that I’m making a killing
My coupe got them stars in the ceiling
My ni**as go brazy, no Ritalin
AP b*tch, I’m all bout them Benji’s
I come through fresh like John Lennon
My wrist a haircut, I’m not kidding
They dig all the sh*t that I’m kicking
I just bought my b*tch some new titties
You take out these pictures, you bogus
We gon’ turn your a** until you tollin’
We gon’ ice your a** down ‘til you folded
Kick that b*tch off the boat with no notice
Ni**a jewelry water, need to float it
Make some bad b*tches fuck my brody
I eat crabs, fish, and that Chipotle
They got lots of bread, I’ma call Butta
Is there any rapper that changes topics as quickly and often as Thug?
As far as songs to ‘turn up’ to, this one probably takes the cake on this tape.

“Family” Feat. Dora and Dolly – The term ‘family’ means the world to Thug.
In the midst of his questionable lyrics, you’ll hear him mention how important family is to him.
So, to close out the mixtape, he decided to feature his two sisters, Dora and Dolly.
The sound is very laid back and relaxing to say the least.
In the outro, Thug gives you a feel of how he views his family.
Final Grade: 6.1/10. Considering Young Thug only has nine songs on this mixtape, he sure does have tons of features, which is a major turn off. Only two songs are solo, which makes me believe he did this to get it out the way. Also, there isn’t any sure fire hits on this tape. Overall, this isn’t the ideal way for Thugga to start off 2016, but at the same time, there’s a couple songs here you’ll want to play for the next couple of weeks. Let’s just hope “Slime Season 3” is much better.
