Dee Gordon on Diet Ignorance Leading to His Positive Drug Test

Dee GordonOn Friday, Major League Baseball announced that Florida Marlins second basemen Dee Gordon tested positive for exogenous Testosterone and Clostebol, substance characterized as performance enhancing drugs and a direct violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.  As a result, Gordon will be suspended from play for 80 games effective immediately.

Issuing a written statement after the announcement, Gordon says he accepts the consequences resulting form the positive test but attributes the findings to ingesting the banned substances unknowingly.

Though I did not do so knowingly, I have been informed that test results showed I ingested something that contained prohibited substances,” Gordon said in a statement. “The hardest part about this is feeling that I have let down my teammates, the organization and the fans,” Gordon said. “I have been careful to avoid products that could contain something banned by MLB and the 20+ tests that I have taken and passed throughout my career prove this. I made a mistake and I accept the consequences.

Gordon, a forth-round pick by the Dodgers in the 2008 Draft, is the son of former big league pitcher Tom Gordan. He will be eligible to return to play on July 29th against Cardinals but the suspension prevents him from participating in post-season play.

Gordon signed a five-year, $50 million deal with the Marlins in January.
