So much has happened in the last two weeks leading up to the NFL draft. The Titans and the Browns have traded out of the top two picks. The Rams and Eagles now are in charge of the first two picks and are likely drafting quarterbacks. Next in line are the Chargers and the Cowboys who can point last years failure to the host of injuries both teams had.
With key players Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Orlando Scandrick expected to back at full strength next season, the Cowboys roster is pretty loaded and they are focused on drafting roster depth. They aren’t forced to draft any particular position and are in the driver seat to get the player they want.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones wrongly thinks Jalen Ramsey was suspended while at FSU which is a good thing in his eyes.
“We’ve got a couple of players in this draft that are really inspirational practice players,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram. “[Ramsey] got suspended from playing a regular season game because he was too aggressive at his own practice. Now who does that remind you of around here? I think Deion and Michael and those guys used to go at it, and both said the games are the easiest part. The practice against each other was the rough part. Ramsey does bring some of that to the table, and two or three others. If you’re up at the top of this draft, you really somehow like to come out with something like that. That’s hard to find. When you see one that is suspended and couldn’t play in the game because he was too rough on his own players, it’s a good sign that he enjoys the physical part of the game.”
To clear things up Jerry is a little off with his thinking although he is on the right track. Ramsey was never suspended while at FSU but he was kicked out of practice once by coach Jimbo Fisher after hitting a running back so hard he fell back into quarterback Jameis Winston’s leg putting him at risk of injury.
If the Chargers pass on Jalen Ramsey, the Dallas Cowboys should waste no time to get Ramsey’s name on the draft card. The team wants to move second year defensive back Byron Jones to safety full-time and with corners Moe Claiborne and Brandon Carr set to become free agents after this season, Ramsey seems like the right pick. He’s a very talented kid with a competitive fire, something the Cowboys secondary needs.
