Steph Curry will not be a part of the USA team that touches down in Rio for this summer’s Olympic Games.
The back-to-back NBA MVP has notified USA Basketball that he will not be playing on this year’s team. The star guard will instead use the offseason to rehab his right knee. After injuring his knee in the first round against the Houston Rockets and missing close to two weeks, Curry would rather be safe than sorry. Barring disaster, he will likely still be eligible to join the 2020 Olympic team. With both Curry and Chris Paul opting out, John Wall or Damian Lillard may likely be selected at the guard position.
Curry’s teammates, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green are also in the player pool. However, Thompson and Iguodala may also withdraw their names due to concerns about the Zika virus. Of course Green isn’t letting a pesky disease deter him from participating if selected.
