Beyoncé has often been accused of being…”inspired” by other’s work if you will.
It looks like she is now being accused of stealing the concept for her latest hit album, “Lemonade”. Back in June, filmmaker Matthew Fulks sued the Queen Bee for copyright infringement. His suit alleges that the trailer, and the HBO film that followed, infringe on his short film “Palinoia.”
On Friday, Beyoncé’s team filed a motion for the suit to be tossed out. In court documents, Bey’s legal team alleges that “Palinoia” and “Lemonade” have nothing to do with one another. For starters, the races and genders of the main characters are polar opposite with “Palinoia” focusing on a white male. In addition, Fulk’s film is not about infidelity. The reason for the demise of his relationship with a blonde, white woman is not made clear. On the flip side, Bey’s film/album centers on infidelity and goes through the stages of a relationship through turmoil and ending in reconciliation. Many were left wondering if art was imitating the megastar’s marriage with Jay-Z.
Fulks is seeking unspecified damages in his suit.
