If the opposition has been so weak, why won’t Canelo fight him?
Has GGG been in the ring with someone as talented as a Floyd Mayweather or savvy and experienced as a Miguel Cotto, no he has not, but it isn’t from a lack of trying.
While you could make a case that Canelo lost to both Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara, there are no questions about GGG ability to put away his opponents.
This is a lot of tough talk from Canelo considering he won’t even commit to fighting him even in 2017.
“All of his opponents have been the easy road,” Alvarez told RingTV.com in a phone interview. “He has never fought someone who has really pushed him or taken him to the next level. All of his opponents have been easy opponents.”
Canelo said he has a good idea when Golovkin will finally face a quality foe: When he fights him, possibly in the fall of 2017. “Of course,” Canelo said, “I’m going to beat him.”
He could have “beat him” in May or September, but alas he will be fighting Liam Smith. If the person you say has taken the easy road is chasing you for a fight you refuse to make, what does that say about you?
