Washington Redskins newly-signed free-agent Josh Norman is basking in the perks and fame of being the highest-paid CB in the league.
That attention just got bigger.
Norman has inked a 1-year deal to contribute weekly to Fox NFL Kickoff, airing at 11am on Sundays, via MMQB.
The only hiccup in this beautiful agreement is that the bosses at Norman’s first job don’t know anything about this yet:
“I haven’t told Coach [Jay] Gruden or [defensive coordinator Joe] Barry yet, but I’ll give them a nice shout out on TV,” Norman said. “It’s not at all going to be a distraction. If you keep your focus on you and not anybody else, you’re going to be fine. I’m going to be me on Sunday.”
Hey, I’m all for diversifying your paper, however when you have videos coming out of you getting torched by your team’s number one receiver, you may wanna take a year just to get comfortable in your new role before taking on more responsibilities.
Fox Sports president of production and executive producer John Entz swears this show won’t be any sort of extra distraction to Norman or the Redskins:
“Our No. 1 priority in this relationship is to make sure we do not get in the way of anything on the field, this is completely secondary”, said Entz. “If there is ever a time where he feels this is something that gets in the way of his focus, then we completely understand that and we will respect that. If he ever came to us, and said, ‘I need a break,’ that’s something we would be comfortable allowing.”
Translation: “If Norman doesn’t put his play where the money is, we’ll give him some time off”.
You can be sure the spotlight will already be white-hot on Norman’s play week in and week out against some of the leagues best. If’s he’s not focused, he’ll have no shortage of TV time having to try and explain away.
