Colin Kaepernick has really doing what ever it takes to make sure his voice is heard. Many have overlooked his message because they disagree with his peaceful and silent protest of kneeling during the National Anthem but his words are actually hitting home with others. Each week more and more public figured are being asked to give their views and opinions on Kaepernick kneeling, racial inequality and injustice in the U.S.
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard giving his strong take on the exact issues Kaepernick is protesting over which were featured on WrestleZone.com.
“If we truly want to make America great, we need to fix this racial inequality. We’ll have a never-ending war if we continue to go down this road. One thing that black people need to understand is the same thing that white people need to understand – neither one of us, black or white, are going anywhere. We have to live with each other, and we need to fix this.”
I feel the biggest issues is that some people of one category or race can’t see, accept or understand the feelings of racism and injustice that those of another category or race feel. Like Booker T said, we have to find some common ground or we will continue to be at odds over race.
Booker T then touched on Kaepernick’s protest.
“Everybody has the right of freedom of speech in the First Amendment, and we need to respect that. Protesters need to speak up at the loudest time where it’s going to get the most ears and attention. Kaepernick is protesting from a peaceful standpoint, and I’ve got to commend him for that, and he’s putting his money where his mouth is [by promising to donate $1 million to organizations that address social issues and racial inequality]. If we had more guys – the guys who call themselves stars – who were willing to do more than talk, but instead walk the walk like Kaepernick, then the world would be a better place.”
I love the direction this is headed. I hope that these public figures continue to use their platforms and never stop bringing attention and awareness to the issues we face daily.
