Perhaps the most important election in American history is almost over, and more athletes are voicing their support for a particular candidate. LeBron is the biggest star in the NBA to choose a side and endorse Hillary Clinton, now one of his best friends Chris Paul is doing the same.
In the past, athletes have often chosen to stay neutral when it comes to political and social issues, but that trend has reversed in recent years. Starting with the Miami HEAT protesting the Trayvon Martin shooting, to Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the anthem, athletes have grown more comfortable taking political stances. Muhammad Ali was initially ostracized by mainstream America for his political outcries, but in today’s era of social media and digital inter-connectivity, athletes are able to galvanize support from followers across the world that share the same views, which lessens the negative repercussions.
Chris Paul’s is no stranger to politics since he has served as President on the NBA players union since 2013
