This case will make you laugh in every sense and at the same time, may make you rethink marriage. Lawrence John Ripple pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in order to avoid going home to his wife.
You can count on stupid criminals to provide that terrific comic relief you needed. The latest criminal to join that list is Lawrence John Ripple, who single-handedly demonstrated how marriage may be overrated. He must’ve forgotten his vows because he just flat out did not want to go home to his wife. There are various solutions to his problem such as divorce but the 70-year old took it to an extreme level & preferred jail over going home to wife.
Ripple, 70, was charged with robbing the Bank of Labor in Kansas City in September, the Kansas City Star reported. The bank robber was released on bond after being charged.
Ripple was caught after handing the bank teller a note that read, “I have a gun, give me money.” He then proceeded to sit down in the lobby of the bank.
A bank security guard eventually approached him.
“I’m the guy you’re looking for,” Ripple reportedly told the guard.
On Monday, Ripple was accompanied by his wife in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kansas, where he pleaded guilty. Ripple did not have an agreement with prosecutors.
Later that day, Ripple was questioned by police and FBI agents. He told them he and his wife had an argument earlier that day and “no longer wanted to be in that situation.”
“Ripple wrote out his demand note in front of his wife … and told her he’d rather be in jail than at home,” an FBI affidavit said.
Before you say “I do,” keep in mind that you say till death do us part. Ripple couldn’t wait till death. His wish was granted in the cruelest of ways but it was all his doing.
