Fernando Bryant was fired by Strong Rock Christian School for a social media post from three years ago where he is holding a beer. 11Alive is reporting that Bryant was asked to resign on Feb. 19 after parents raised issues about the picture on social media. Bryant refused to resign, and was terminated.
The school interviewed Bryant for two months, called his wife, checked both his and her social media accounts before making an offer. It is assumed that the school was already aware of the photo from its exhaustive vetting process. The photo was taken at a shoot for Be Magazine, and featured Bryant’s wife, Amber, who was doing the event as part of a promo tour for her Bravo TV show “Mother Funders.”
First, is that all these busybody parents have to do is look into three year old social media posts. Also, why does one parent or a small group of parents wield so much power at a school? Finally, this doesn’t seem very “Christian-like” from Strong Rock. Bryant is an observing Christian—a prerequisite for the job as the school only hires faculty that are born-again Christians and has them sign a statement of faith. One of the tenets of Christianity is forgiveness. Holding a beer is not a sin, even if it is, he has surely “repented” why should he lose his job?
