CBS News is reporting that a Texas family has discovered that their house has been serving as a snake den. Isac Mcfadden went to use the bathroom in his family’s home and saw a rattlesnake in the toilet. He alerted his mother who killed the snake with a shovel. But not before calling a snake removal company.
Nathan Hawkins of Big Country Snake Removal saw the dead snake when he entered the home and told the family he would check the rest of the domicile to ensure there weren’t anymore. Upon checking the house, Hawkins found 13 snakes in the basement, and 15 more in a crawl space below the house. Hawkins said:
It’s kind of intuition. If you do this long enough, you kind of understand snakes and what they do during certain times of the year. With rattlesnakes, western diamondbacks in particular, they’re real communal animals during cooler months. They tend to live together in dens.
What a frightening thought. If you see a snake in your home, beware, there are probably more.
