Ray Rice was at ex teammate Torrey Smith’s charity basketball tournament where he spoke to ESPN about an NFL comeback. Rice hasn’t played in the league in three years after video of a severe domestic assault incident between Rice, and then fiancee Janay Palmer. Rice said:
The reason why I’m not playing football, you do the dots. It ain’t because I’m a bad football player. That’s just keeping it real. I’m never giving up and never giving in.
Rice received an indefinite suspension from the league and three months after his indefinite suspension, Rice won his appeal and was immediately reinstated, making him eligible to sign with any team.
The way the NFL handled the entire situation was horrendous and terribly wrong and misguided. The league had access to the video before they said and knew the content of said video. The league does not care about violence against women and is only paying lip service. The league and subsequent team’s avoiding re-signing Rice is just a PR move.
