The Knicks have Kristaps Porzingis and well…not much else. Maybe they get lucky in the lottery and jump into the top 3. Pair a young intriguing guard such as Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball with Kristaps Porzingis and solidify a young core for the future.
Not completely unlikely but still this is the New York Knicks. If you’re Dame, why not shoot your shot at a 21 year old future All Star big?
From the moment Kristaps Porzingis was drafted he’s had a greater sense of his surroundings than most players entering the league. Well aware that New York is in a state of dysfunction, Porzingis skipped his exit meeting with Phil Jackson. The same Phil Jackson of course who NBPA Michele Roberts is seeking punishment for pushing Melo out the door. Speaking of Melo…
Players around the league know the deal in New York. Is it a great place to play? It depends on your perspective. The fans are top notch and support teams which are perennial cellar dwellers. Delivering a title in NY makes you a legend forever in a way which transcends sports.
Phil Jackson’s pettiness toward Melo combined with his triangle masterplan has poisoned the well for many future free agents. There will always be vets available looking to cash out on one last deal but the main issue for the Knicks going forward is attracting the caliber of player to develop alongside Porzingis. Luckily New York has all it’s 1st round draft picks going forward and it will be some time before Porzingis can test the market for alternative suitors.
