Early Monday afternoon Bill Simmons reported that there may be some mutual interest between New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
In a statement posted via twitter, Simmons said the two sides are “circling each other,” and that the presence of OKC assistant general manager Troy Weaver could play a role since he helped recruit Melo to Syracuse in college.
Melo has previously been in talks with both the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason.
No word from Melo’s camp on what his next move will be. After acquiring Paul George and already having the league’s MVP on the team this could be a pretty sweet deal for Anthony.
In order for this to happen he need to waive his no-trade clause to be traded anywhere, depending on the teams salary cap.
Melo is due $26.2 million next season and can become an unrestricted free agent in 2018 should he chose to opt out of the final year of his deal.
Nothing has been said as to whether which way Melo is leaning.
