After the stunning trade that sent Paul George from Indiana to Oklahoma City hours before the start of free agency, the Indiana Pacers are looking break the mold and shift into a different direction.
So for veterans like Monta Ellis his run on the Indiana Pacers ends here. Reports confirm that the sides were working towards a buyout and that it was apparent there would be a split.
On Wednesday, according to The Vertical, the Pacers will be waiving Monta Ellis without a buyout. Teams will 48 hours to claim him before he can become an unrestricted free agent.
Ellis still has two years left on his current contract, but the Pacers will waive him using the stretch provision extending the money owed over a five year period.
With his fewest averaged points since his rookie year and player efficiency rating dropping to (9.9) the lowest of his career, the 31- year old has limited options.
If the waive clears, the market for Ellis will be quite interesting. As he should be worth more than the veteran’s minimum. Although the free agency market has reduced due to last season’s spending he might end up being paid less than his value by the time he signs a new contract.
New teams will have to consider Ellis’s declining performance and not to mention the five game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy,
The now former Pacers guard will be looking for a new team they may possibly result in a pay cut.
