The University of Southern California quarterback Sam Darnold is being watched closely by NFL teams heading into his sophomore campaign.
The PAC-12 Offensive Freshman of the year (2016) is projected as the number one pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. In the 2017 draft, teams took quarterbacks three times in the first round, Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.
In 2018 Darnold is hoping to land with an NFL team that isn’t Cleveland (1-15) bad.
In an interview with ESPN’s Michael Smith and Jemele Hill, Darnold who is the front runner for the Heisman said that he’s heard of the hype. Smith brought up a “Suck for Sam campaign,” Darnold didn’t deny it, but he didn’t offer much either.
“I don’t really have many thoughts about that,” he said. “But I’ve definitely heard of it.”
Hill pushed the button, asking if it was flattering, Darnold responded,
“I don’t think any team should tank their season because of me.”
Look no further than the New York Jets as a potential landing spot for Darnold. Last season Ryan Fitzpatrick was their quarterback, let’s just say he has a new job elsewhere. The quarterback competition going into the 2017 NFL season is between Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg.
In other words, the Jets need a quarterback and who better than Sam Darnold.
Now we play the waiting game and we will see what happens…
