Giants McAdoo on If He’d Prefer if OBJ Uses Two Hands When He Catches Football (Video)

We’ve been on hand at New York Giants training camp this summer and star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. continues to standout. The 4th year pro has mastered the art of the one handed catch and was at it again in Monday’s practice. After the on field session, head coach Ben McAdoo was asked about Beckham’s one handed grabs. In typical coach speak, the Giants head man said he likes two hands on the ball instead of one, and that he likes completions instead of incompletions.

Securing the football is paramount for any successful team. Two hands on the ball is what every player is taught in Pop Warner and gives you a better chance of holding on. We all get that. But, there’s something special about the way OBJ attacks the football with one hand. It’s important to note, he doesn’t use one hand on every catch. More often than not he uses both. The one handed grab is often situational and depends on the flight of the ball and how the talented wide receiver reads it.

OBJ is a lightning rod for criticism but much of it is unwarranted. He is one of the three best receivers in all of football and clearly the Giants best player. My guess is, as long as he is able to make one handed catches, McAdoo and the rest of the Giants staff may prefer he uses two but they won’t demand that he stop.
