Back in 2010 Paris, Texas was referred to as Mississippi 50 years ago, seven years later it’s not much better. Tuesday morning at Paris High School trucks were parked in the parking lot with confederate flags flying high from them.
Brenda Cherry posted the picture yesterday morning with a caption that read:
So apparently the spoiled white boys are standing up for their white supremacy rights at Paris High School. I guess PISD wants to be in national news again. And get this, they have a Black man standing out there guarding the trucks and telling people you can’t come into the parking lot unless you have school business. I told him I most certainly have school business. Symbols of white supremacy at a public school campus IS my school business. He called the campus police on me. What for I don’t know. They were not going to stop me from capturing this on film.
Cherry stated that she emailed the district’s Superintendent about a student driving around with the Confederate flag from his truck and nothing was done and on Tuesday more trucks pulled up with the flag flying on the back.
After Tuesday’s incident the district responded by saying the decision was “ill-considerd” and caused an “unnecessary and unfortunate disruption to our educational environment.” They later said the “appropriate steps” would be taken to address the actions that took place. So in other words it will be swept under the rug and life will continue as normal in Paris, Texas.
In a society where it is deemed unpatriotic to kneel during the national anthem, it should be a no brainer that waving a Confederate flag that represents the people that opposed our country and oppressed people of color is unpatriotic, but in 2017 that is not the case.
