Over the past decade, there has been protests about changing the Washington Redskins’ team name. Many view their name as offensive to Native Americans.
Native advocates have started a Twitter page called the Washington Redhawks to show that this is the name that the team should be changed to.
“We created this action to show the NFL and the Washington football franchise how easy , popular, and powerful changing the name could be,” said Rebecca Eagle, of one of the organizers of Cherokee Nation. “What we’re asking for only changes four letters. Just four letters! Certainly the harm that the mascot does to Native Americans outweighs the very, very minor changes the franchise would need to make.”

This online campaign also confused many Redskins fans as to thinking that owner Dan Snyder already changed their name. It all started with the #GoRedhawks camapign, led by Native leader Peggy Flannagan.
