Season in and season out-the Jets always find themselves in a quarterback situation. It’s an unwritten joke that will never go away. Reportedly, the Jets are considering to sign Kirk Cousins and will guarantee him $60 million.
People will quickly want to fight whatever their teams do but let’s hear this one out. One thing that sticks out here is “guaranteed,” and it’s because pretty much, that word is so foreign in the NFL. Last season for the Redskins, he played the full 16 games and his stats weren’t too bad. His interception ratio is steadily going up but his touchdown count has remained at a constant since starting his career back in 2012. However, is this the right move for the Jets? In this reporter’s opinion, it might be too much.
Todd Bowles has lived to see another season but he truly isn’t the problem-its the quarterback. Well, not just the quarterback but its huge portion of the issue. If the Jets were to get a solid piece there, they might give Bowles something to work with.
First, Pro Football Talk reported the Jets could aim to give Kirk Cousins a fully guaranteed deal. Now, according to the New York Post, they could consider front-loading a mammoth deal for Cousins with a $60 million cap hit in the first year of the contract.
Much like SBNation pointed out, Jimmy G’s contract might be trumped, regarding the record setting. But would Cousins consider leaving another train wreck team for another, so to speak, train wreck team? It’s a lot to consider because on one hand you have your reputation and on the other you have money. Who knows-perhaps Cousins is the change needed?
The Jets do have the sixth pick of this year’s NFL Draft but their focus should be offense improvement.
