According to Profootballtalk, ESPN is offering TE Jason Witten somewhere between $4 million and $4.5 million per year to do Monday Night Football.
Monday Night just lost John Gruden to a coaching gig with the Las Vegas Raiders this year, so the crew has some money to play around with.
If, for some reason, Witten decides to actually play football, he will only be earning a base salary of $1.05 million with up to $750K in potential per-game roster bonuses.
According to the numbers provided by Total Sportek, that would put Jason Witten at somewhere around #6 or #7, as one of the highest paid sports reporters—ahead of notables like Max Kellerman, Al Michaels, Dan Patrick, and Stephen A. Smith.
Apparently, Jason Witten is just the LeBron James of play-by-play announcing.
Rex Ryan, Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck, Booger McFarland, and Louis Riddick are all possible alternatives for the Monday Night crew if Jason Witten passes on the job.
