The Draft Lottery just took place and the Phoenix Suns won the lottery to become the team who will draft 1st in next month’s NBA Draft. Currently former University of Arizona Center Deandre Ayton is considered by many scouts as the potential number 1 pick. The NBA Combine is currently taking place in Chicago and many prospects are either helping or hurting their stock by participating in basketball drills and playing scrimmages against each other.
Another player who has been linked to possibly being the number pick by Phoenix is Slovenian guard Luka Doncic who recently advanced to the EuroLeague Championship. Bleacher Report is reporting that the guard has also won the EuroLeague MVP award at 19 years old and becomes the youngest EuroLeague player to win the award.
The EuroLeague is considered by many more competitive than any collegiate basketball and also second only to the NBA in talent. Doncic plays for Real Madrid is currently under contract for 3 more seasons and ESPN is reporting that he has not decided if he will bring his talents to the NBA if he is drafted next month.
“Ι’m not sure if these are the last two games [in Europe],” Doncic said at a news conference for the EuroLeague Final Four. “We have yet to make this decision. Perhaps after the season.”
There are already rumors that the Suns will select him with their pick as their new head coach was also the coach of the Slovenian team in their gold medal win in EuroBasket last year. Only time will tell whether he will be picked first as he is being considered by many scouts as the best international prospect.
