Archie Manning did an interview with The Athletic and spoke on how Eli maybe thinking about hanging up his cleats after the season because the losing is too much for him to bear.
“It’s as hard as it gets. This is as hard as it gets in football,”. “There are two really sour sides of football. Losing is the worst. Being hurt is the other. He’s never been hurt, knock on wood. This is as tough as it gets. I can speak from experience. I went through it.”
“Eli hasn’t said this to me, but I think as the season winds down, I’m sure it will be a time to reflect and figure some things out,” Archie Manning said. “But right now, I think his efforts are trying to be a good leader and a good player and a good teammate. It’s football, but it’s absolutely the worst side of it.”
If Eli would have retired 2-3 years ago, I was confident he would have made it into the Hall of Fame just off the strength of his two Super Bowl wins over Tom Brady.
If the Giants were close to being competitive the last couple of years, I think he would have been a shoo-in as well, but now I am not so sure.
People and Hall of Fame voters tend to remember the end more than the beginning and those Super Bowl wins are becoming farther in the distance.
I think it is now 50-50 on Eli getting in.
