The six-part documentary Surviving R. Kelly on Lifetime spilled all of the tea on R.Kelly having sex with teenage girls and physically assaulting them. His relationship with Aaliyah was also addressed where he married her when she was 15 and supposedly had sex with her on a tour bus.
Notable names spoke against Kelly in the documentary such as John Legend and Charlamagne Tha God. Other artists are starting to speak out as well such as Meek Mill and now Texas legend Bun B. He took to Instagram to say that people need to hold Kelly accountable for his sexual abuse and to stop making excuses for his behavior.
“F**k R Kelly, Hugh Hefner, Sparkle, the ex-wife and anybody/anything else being used as an excuse to take away from the fact he was f**king kids. Do black men get f**ked over by the system? Yes. Will they drag a good black man’s name through the mud to further a negative social stereotype and narrative? Yes. But not this b***h. Or Bill Cosby. Save your anger for real victims of injustice.”
Yes, the system does black men dirty all the time in America but Kelly’s actions are out in the open. The sex tape where he urinated on a teenage girl was obvious as well but her family refused to say it was her. It looked like they were paid off. The pain seen in these women’s faces on Surviving R. Kelly was hard to watch and it’s shocking that Kelly still hasn’t been brought to justice. Props to John Legend, Meek Mill, and Bun B on using their platforms to address R. Kelly’s actions.
