For the second consecutive year, fans attend another rainy Pro Bowl in Orlando but the NFL players made sure they put on a show for them. Well maybe just the AFC.
The first half was all AFC and nothing much from the NFC besides Kyle Fuller intercepting Andrew Luck’s pass intended for Pittsburgh Steelers’ Juju Smith-Schuster who suffered a knee contusion in the second quarter.
From the opening drive, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was playing like an MVP getting comfortable with Los Angeles Chargers tight end Keenan Allen putting up 95 receiving yards before leaving the game with a knee contusion at half.
The only touchdowns scored in the first half was Mahomes passing touchdown to Indianapolis Colts tight end Eric Ebron and Chiefs full back Anthony Sherman’s one yard touchdown. Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck took over for Mahomes in the second quarter and his receiver Ebron was happy to see his quarterback back in the Pro Bowl.
“It’s great. That’s the leader of our team, our franchise quarterback, our face of the organization, so it’s great,” Ebron said.
NFC Russell Wilson didn’t see much action after his 35-yard pass to Green Bay Packers Devante Adams in the first half leaving them scoreless and the AFC with 17 points.
Beginning of the second half didn’t get any better for the NFC team as Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. picked off Chicago Bears Mitchell Trubisky in the first drive. Then Trubisky was picked off again in his second drive by New York Jets Jamal Adams who was itching for an interception all game.
“Wish the rain was a little better so it could be a better experience for everyone else,” Trubisky said.
Cowboys Dak Prescott took over in the fourth for the NFC and things changed as Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper scored a 20-yard touchdown with 9:05 left in the game. Then Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans decided to play defense and got the only interception for the NFC giving the NFC a chance to comeback.
We asked when was the last time he got an interception and he said it was years ago.
“My last interception was in 2010,” said Evans. “I couldn’t guard no receiver, I don’t think. It would take me years to practice.”
However, the possible NFC comeback was shattered when Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard picked off Prescott with 4:22 left in the game and down 7 to 20.
After witnessing Evans on defense, AFC coach Anthony Lynn decided to make a switch of his own and had Florida’s former Seminole Jalen Ramsey play on offense.
Ramsey ended the game with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson, AFC winning 26 to 7.
Mahomes won the Pro Bowl MVP but his team mate Tyreek Hill supposedly said Sherman should of won.
