It might be a stretch to say Kanye saved Jay Z’s career.
The two albums previous to Kanye coming on board was Vol 3 which went triple platinum and produced classics like “Big Pimpin” and “Do it Again”.
Jay did a collaboration album after that called The Dynasty that debuted with bigger numbers than Vol 3 and went double platinum and the song “I Just Want to Love You” was one of his biggest crossover songs.
Those two joints had all-star producers on them before Kanye came along. To give credit where credit is due, many consider The Blueprint, Hov’s best album, but it isn’t like his career was suffering at that time, plus it didn’t sell as well as the previous two records we just spoke of.
The only time Hov’s career seemed a little shaky was after the Kingdom Come album, but he immediately came back with the America Gangsta classic album which Kanye had nothing to do with.
That doesn’t mean Kanye isn’t owed money, but just wanted to speak on that part, here is what we know about the lawsuit.
Jay-Z sold his share in Roc-A-Fella back in 2004 and no longer has any involvement in the company. A source close to Kanye makes it clear, there’s absolutely NO beef with Jay in filing the new docs.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, West is going after Roc-A-Fella Records and Island Def Jam over “the parties’ rights and obligations to one another under the Recording Agreement and Extensions.”
There is one part of the lawsuit that is left visible. West recounts his career and rise to fame and describes producing and writing on Jay-Z’s classic album, “The Blueprint,” and gives himself credit for “helping revitalize Jay-Z’s career.”
West also filed a similar lawsuit against EMI, the song publisher that has handled his rights since 2003. That lawsuit is equally as mysterious and heavily redacted.
Hopefully, this isn’t Kanye just going off the rails again, if they really do owe him money, they should pay him.
