Well that was short-lived.
During tonight’s Smackdown Live, we were supposed to have a contract signing between WWE Champion Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston.
Kingston has been riding a wave of momentum after his gauntlet match on Smackdown just two weeks ago when he pinned the WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. He nearly did it again in the main event at Elimination Chamber for the WWE Title.
The groundswell of #KofiMania built throughout the WWE Universe and the wrestling community. After his performance at Elimination Chamber, Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon named Kofi Kingston, Daniel Bryan’s challenger at the upcoming Fastlane pay-per-view and it seemed as if the 11 years of hard work for Kingston finally paid off.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had other ideas though tonight on Smackdown.
As Kingston and Bryan were about to sign the contract, the WWE Chairman had a huge announcement…in the form of KO-Mania.
Kevin Owens, who has been out since early October after having double knee surgery, returned to the WWE Tuesday and was named Kofi Kingston’s replacement in the WWE Title match at Fastlane.
In a huge twist (seeing as Owens at one point headbutted McMahon) Bryan now faces the former Universal Champion in two weeks time.
Its been a wild couple of nights in WWE with the return of Roman Reigns and Batista (who looks like he’s headed to Wrestlemania vs. Triple H) last night on Monday Night Raw and now the return of Kevin Owens on Smackdown.
The Road To Wrestlemania is continuing to heat up!
Check out Vince’s announcement and Twitter’s reaction to the return of KO-Mania.
