Jussie Smollett beat his felony case in March regarding filing a false police report for staging his own hate crime in Chicago but it hasn’t stopped the backlash. Fox has chosen as of now not to bring him back for season six of Empire despite the cast calling for his return and and his acting career in general looks like it’s in jeopardy.
Court documents have now found out that Smollett was trying to buy cocaine from the Osundairo brothers, the two men who were paid by Smollett to help with the staged attack, per Jason Meisner of the Chicago Tribune. Smollett didn’t use the word coke or cocaine in the texts but called it “Whitney” instead, which refers to Whitney Houston and her use of the drug. The texts started on July 1, 2018. On August 18, Smollett requested that they get him weed too.
Smollett and the Osundairo brothers arranged payment for the coke which was $200 and was paid for by Smollett through the Venmo app. Smollett was able to avoid being hit with 16 felony counts but he could end up being under investigation for these texts now as well. The city of Chicago is also going after Smollett after spending over $150,000 in their investigation of him for the false police report.
