Odell Beckham Jr. getting traded to the Browns this spring shocked the NFL and the move added to an already high-powered Cleveland offense that now has Baker Mayfield, Kareem Hunt, Nick Chubb, and Jarvis Landry. Following his arrival in the city, Beckham said he wanted to turn the Browns into the next Patriots.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be great and building a dynasty but according to former Pats Safety Rodney Harrison, being quiet is the key to succeeding like New England. He addressed Beckham’s comments on Cleveland radio station 92.3 The Fan.
“I think the first thing they have to do is if they want to be like the Patriots, they have to shut up,” Harrison said during the “The Zach Gelb Show.” “You don’t need Odell Beckham talking, talking about he’s trying to be like the Patriots. Just shut up and play, OK?”
Beckham previously addressed the criticism by saying there’s nothing wrong with wanting to succeed like the Pats on a daily basis.
“There is nothing wrong with having aspirations, and who wouldn’t aspire to be part of an organization that is 12-4, 11-5 and in the playoffs and playing for Super Bowls on the regular,” said Beckham. “It’s really stating the obvious when you say you want your organization to be successful like the Patriots. I know my teammates want to be a part of building something like that, (head coach) Freddie Kitchens and (general manager) John Dorsey are doing everything they can to get us there. Understand it doesn’t happen without work and we’re all committed to that.”
As of now, Harrison is right. The Browns are far from the Patriots and what they need to do is at least get back to the playoffs. With the talent they have this year though, winning the AFC North and getting to the postseason is very realistic.
