As he continues to be seen as one of the most up and coming faces of the NFL, Baker Mayfield is doing his best to connect to the NFL world by speaking his mind and showing his real personality. We’ve seen him dancing on more then one occasion, we’ve seen him put Colin Cowherd in a real tight spot and we’ve seen him feeling real dangerous.
Baker Mayfield is now the point guard to what should be one of the most prolific offenses ever to call Cleveland their home. The Browns in two years have become a team that are now “must-see TV”, which is something special to say when we’ve all seen that photo of the Browns jersey with 2 dozen QB names that have all been starters over the last 15 years over the Browns depression. I still remember strongly believing Brady Quinn was going to be the next big thing.
Last year we saw the Browns take centre stage during HBO’s Hard Knocks, which for many of us you could tell from the 3rd episode that Baker was exactly what the fans wanted, and they were right.
Jarvis Landry it seems to be is continually under the radar when you think of the best receivers in the league – but he’ll be happy to bless any and all corners at a moments notice. David Njoku is an athletic marvel. Nick Chubb has the potential to be a true #1 RB. They brought in Kareem Hunt who will be running for redemption when he returns from his suspension. Lastly, they brought in the formerly blonde haired NFL Superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., unlike Landry (despite them being teammates in college) Beckham has been in the conversation for the best receiver in the league ever since he made the world take notice of his talents with arguably the greatest catch of all-time on Sunday Night Football back in 2014. All of these riches are now in the hands of one Baker Mayfield.
In an interview with ESPN’s Mina Kimes Baker spoke candidly about his new Wide Receiver as well as included a not so subtle pot shot at Beckham’s former team – the New York Giants.
“He’s here to play in front of fans who actually care, who will actually show up to every game and pack the stadium and love him for who he is.”
The not so subtle jab at the New York sports scene that did it’s best to make OBJ a villain when most of us can look at his “antics” as minor distractions from one of the most phenomenal talents we’ve seen catch a football. The New York Giants who are usually looking at half filled buildings by the 3rd quarter of a losing effort, shipped Beckham in March of this year after extending him for 5 years, and $95 million just last summer.
If there’s one thing we know about the Cleveland Browns fanbase it’s that they are up their with the most dedicated of all-time Sports fanbases. They’ve witnessed more losses then anyone deserves to see over a 10 year span, so if there’s a fanbase that finally deserves a winner on the football field. It’s most certainly located in Cleveland, Ohio and the maestro Baker Mayfield is ready to deliver.
