In another installment of crazed fans going WAYYY over the line a report surfaced today of Oklahoma City Thunder General Manager Sam Presti and Head Coach Billy Donovan receiving death threats from a very overzealous fan that was not happy with the organization’s moves, specifically trading Superstar Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers for a King’s Ransom.
While no one can fault a fan for being upset when they see a cornerstone of their franchise depart for an in conference rival, or even taking steps to voice your displeasure with the front office – great use for Twitter and Facebook in my opinion. To think that calling into the Thunder front office and threatening staff members with bodily harm is never going to end up in the “good idea” category.
“Y’all traded Paul George but kepy Raymond Felton. You kept Andre Roberson. Do y’all not love Russell Westbrook?”
“I hope he kill everybody. I want to kill everybody”
Were just some of the quotes recovered via KOCO5 directed towards Head Coach Billy Donovan.
After leaving this voicemail, the caller then came back for Round 2 this time with similar threats being spewed towards General Manager Sam Presti.
That on top of additional messages of bomb threats and the caller saying he would “blow things up” if the Virginia man ever made it to Oklahoma is just one of the many dark spots that seem to be rearing its ugly head in the world of sports.
It’s becoming more and more commonplace to see threats of some kind whether it’s directed towards the front office or even towards individual players if they don’t put up an impressive enough fantasy sports stat line.
The message that most fans need to understand is that there’s a reason Billy Donovan is the Head Coach and they’re not. There’s a reason Sam Presti is General Manager and they’re not. The simple fact is they are qualified and they’ve earned the right to make the best decisions possible for their franchise.
To any fans that will sit at home and say that they know what’s best for their favorite team that is all well and good, but when a position opens up in the front office be sure to submit your resume – best of luck.
