Lil Nas X is currently being sued for $25 million for ripping off “Carry On” in his song “Old Town Road”.
The Music Force claims it owns the right to a song called Carry On written by Bobby Caldwell. The company claims Lil Nas X and his producer took parts of “Carry On” and place it in their song via the blast.
The Music Force said the duo was “motivated by greed and malicious intent,” when they uploaded the song to Spotify, Youtube, and SoundCloud.
The Music Force also claims Sony “knew or should have known … to make sure all elements of ‘Carry On’ had been cleared.”
“Sony elected to take no action to stop this illegal, unauthorized infringement as it was far more important to Sony to preserve its opportunity to enjoy millions of dollars of revenues from the success of the career of X,” said in the lawsuit.
The company is seeking $10 million in damages and $15 million in punitive damages.
