This week brings the oldest and the biggest of my prospects for the month of August: 27-year-old, 6’6” heavyweight Croatian boxer Filip Hrgovic.
Hrgovic is 9-0, with 7 knockouts, and the other 2 wins via unanimous decision. Hrgovic last fought this past weekend versus Mario Heredi on the Juan Francisco Estrada/DeWayne Beamon card. Hrgovic beat Heredi by knocking him out in the third round.
Hrgovic moves well for his size and uses his jab effectively. Hrgovic has that classic European style of fighting that is clean; stands straight up, works behind his jab, not too much pressure, but possesses enough knockout power that makes him an entertaining fighter.
Hrgovic turned pro in 2017. Prior to this, Filip Hrgovic had an amateur record of 74-15, winning the European Amateur Boxing Championship in 2015 and a bronze medalist in the 2016 summer Olympics.
Hrgovic has also had the experiences of sparring with heavyweight names like Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder and it shows in his level of confidence. According to Hrgovic, sparring those two confirmed for him that he is able to compete at the highest level.
Hrgovic recently signed a deal with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn in February of this year, through which his fights will be streamed on DAZN in the United States and aired on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom. This should help increase his visibility and push him to the next stage of his career.
Flip the page for some of his knockouts.
