Lawyers representing R&B singer R. Kelly filed a motion in court to have their client released from what they described as cruel and unusual punishment suffered in solitary confinement earlier this week.
On Friday, federal prosecutors disputed the claim made that R.Kelly is being held in solitary confinement as charged in the court filing. In fact, the prosecution states the singer has had a cellmate for much of his stay in custody.
The prosecution also claims R.Kelly is seeking preferential treatment based on his celebrity status.
A ruling on the motion is expected to be handed down next week.
