The Former Pro Bowler and Super bowl winning receiver, Jordy Nelson has officially called it quits from the NFL. According to The Official Packers website, Jordy Nelson will retire with the team in an official ceremony.
Nelson, spent 10 years in Green Bay. While with the Packers, Nelson help lead the team to a Lombardi trophy over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super bowl XLV. During the Super bowl, Nelson became just the 4th receiver in this era with 9 plus receptions, 140 yards receiving, and a touchdown, according to Packers.com.
Some of Jordy’s statistical achievements include,
- 3rd in franchise receptions (550)
- 5th in receiving yards (7,848)
- 2nd in Touchdown receptions (69)
- 3rd in 100 yard receiving games
- NFL comeback Player of the Year 2016
After being released by the Packers in 2018, Jordy signed with the Raiders, eventually being cut. It’s been rumored if Jordy’s former QB and good friend Aaron Rodgers came calling, Jordy would for sure answer the call and come out of retirement.
Plot twist; Jordy holds all the cards in his immediate future. Why ? According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talks, Nelson did not sign a one day deal with the Packers. If he had indeed signed a one day contract for the official retirement, and decided he wanted to sign with another team the Packers would have the player rights to block that signing. Because Jordy is a free agent, he can sign with any team.
I think the chances Jordy comes out of retirement are very slim, but would never count out a reunion with Mr. Aaron Rodgers.
