At this point if you are a part of sports media and you are critical of Baker Mayfield, be aware that he is listening. It is only Baker’s 2nd season in the NFL but he went back and forth with Colin Cowherd and it seems Rex Ryan is next. TMZ had the details.
The former coach Rex Ryan is now an analyst for ESPN and on the show “Get Up!” he called out Mayfield’s performance this season. After a loss to the Rams Rex Ryan said.
“I bought into the dang hype,” Ryan said. “What’s he doing right? Here’s a guy right now that’s a one-read guy and then he’s gonna improvise.”
Mayfield was asked if the recent comments added “fuel to the fire” on Wednesday. Mayfield casually fired back at Ryan. Mayfield responded:
In the wise words of Freddie Kitchens — ‘if you don’t wear Orange and Brown, you don’t matter.’ Rex Ryan doesn’t have any colors right now for a reason, so it’s okay.”
That’s a savage response at a guy who worked in the NFL from 1999 to 2016. We all know Ryan took the NY Jets to back to back AFC Title games as a head coach as well. Knowing the personalities of both of these guys, this won’t be the last we hear about this dispute. Hopefully Baker Mayfield will be able to focus on winning games as well.
