Jay Gruden was fired by the Washington Redskins last week after five years with the organization, and he’s wasting no time airing out his feelings about what went wrong at the end of his tenure.
Gruden went on the Dan Le Batard with Stugotz Show on Tuesday and confirmed that he felt rookie first-round pick quarterback, Dwayne Haskins wasn’t ready after starting one season at Ohio State.
Redskins Owner Daniel Snyder overrode Gruden and selected Haskins despite Gruden’s objections.
… It was our professional opinion (Dwayne) wasn’t ready to step in and play in the first 5 games of the season. It will take some time for him. He only played 13 or 14 games as a college player. He’s very raw, but he’s very talented. … He just wasn’t ready when I was there.”
Snyder will now need to find a new head coach to further Haskin’s development and pay off Snyder’s gamble.
