Rockets James Harden issued an apology after practice in reference to his GM’s Daryl Morey tweet, ‘
“”Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.”
Those comments clearly offended the entire country of China to the stance the broadcasting network stated they were pulling all Houston Rockets games off of the air. According to TMZ, sponsors also have abandoned the Rockets and the NBA.
Websites that carry Houston Rockets gear also pulled the merchandise off of the internet and stores.
Harden who spoke with reporters, told them
“We apologize. We love China,” Harden said while standing next to Houston Rockets teammate Russell Westbrook.
“We love playing there. Both of us, we go there once or twice a year,””We appreciate them as a fan base. We love everything there about them, and we appreciate the support that they give us individually and as [an] organization.”
The drama that has been unfolding in China revolves around violence against the protestors. Protestors are furious over an extradition law that would allow a person who has been arrested to face trial in another vicinity. Basically it would give chief executive power to on a case by case basis to send a suspected criminal somewhere else to face trial in which the city has no formal extradition agreement. In the words of Amiel Rossabi, imagine being chargedfor a crime and in the state you commit the crime you face potentially life in prison; A judge hearing the case could send you to Puerto Rico or even Canada where your state you live in has no legal binding agreement with the other state. What if Canada or Puerto Rico potentially made you face the death penalty for those same charges? This is why the citizens in the jurisdictions are beyond mad and protesting the law of the land.So let me get this straight. We just had one of our biggest stars apologize on the behalf of the United States and the Rockets organization to a communist dictatorship because Morey “An American” said he supports democracy? Are you kidding me. To say this is a disgrace would be an understatement. China is basically demolishing its freedoms of Hong-Kong. China is indeed leveraging is power economically and forcing others into submitting into their imperialist sentiments.Just think about it for a second; Does James Harden even know why he is apologizing? Is he putting money above the economic freedoms? Is he competent enough to understand what is actually going on in reality?Harden in another words should have just said, we like money, the Rockets like money and we are sincerely sorry.
