ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the NY Jets have traded defensive end Leonard Williams to the NY Giants for a 3rd round pick in 2020 and a 5th round pick in 2021.
This looks like a win for Leonard Williams. The 6th overall pick in the 2015 draft was not living up to expectations for the Jets. Williams made a Pro Bowl in 2016 but hasn’t played at that level since. He is getting a fresh start on a new team, and he won’t have to look for a new house.
The trade is a little surprising for the Giants since they are currently 2-6 this season. Leonard Williams is also on the last year of his deal and will be looking for a new contract at the end of the season. Usually 2-6 teams are sellers at the trade deadline not buyers, but that’s why I am not an NFL GM.
