Eric B is definitely a hip-hop legend as he made a name for himself in the 90s as he was in a group with fellow NY rapper, Rakim. Eric has been locked up in New Jersey since October though after a warrant from 2002 showed up stating that he didn’t go to a court appearance, according to his attorney,Patrick Toscano, to PIX 11.
The case dates back to 2001 where Eric was stopped by police where things turned into a chase which resulted into two cop cars crashing. A plea deal was negotiated with Eric being told that he wouldn’t need to go back to court. That turned out to be completely wrong as a bench warrant was soon issued for his arrest.
Eric’s attorney during that time was Paul Bergrin. Strangely enough, Bergrin is currently serving a life sentence for a murder charge. Eric didn’t even know about the warrant until the traffic stop went down last month in Vermont.
A hearing took place in Hackensack Superior Court and Eric was released as a court appearance is being scheduled for November 22. The stated wanted Eric to be held without bail for some reason. In addition to being released, he had to pay $5,000 in restitution and has to be re-sentenced. He will argue for no more jail time.
Toscano says that Eric wants to focus on acting. He’s been on the right track with that as he’s on the CBS show, “Blue Bloods.” As far as the warrant and arrest goes, he was done dirty. It’s not his fault that his attorney at the time screwed up on instructing him what was happening. Eric doesn’t deserve anymore jail time. Leave this all in 2002.
